Gandhi Hatya and the forgotten Bhramin Genocide

30th January is marked as a sad day in India  owing to the death of the 'Mahatma' M.G. Gandhi. We are told, he led our country to a 'non-violent' freedom movement. Ironically though, his own life was claimed by an act of volience committed by Nathuram Godse.  Godse was awarded capital punishment and rightly so for his heinous crime. Gandhi preached non violence his entire life. TURN THE OTHER CHEEK if someone hits you was his message. He faced criticism for this approach from all quarters and specially so after partion but Gandhi stuck his neck out. People claim he even sacrificed his life for that. So was the 'MAHATMA' able to pass on his life lessons to his disciples?. The Aftermarth:  Congress attacks Savarkar: We all know Veer Savarkar was implicated only to be acquitted  in Gandhis murder. Savarkar was lucky to have survived to face the trial. Congress had criticized Savarkar and his organization Hindu Mahasabha for taking an 'extremists' position i

Sankranti: Why maharashtrians wear black!

One festival different names. The true unity in diversity of India is celebrating a Meta theme yet maintaining it's regional flavor. Makar Sankranti in West, Pongal in South, Lohri in North Western India is one such festival which marks the beginning of Uttarayan. The festival is celebrated with pomp and cheer across India. As with most festival in India, Sankranti also has display of vibrant colors, most notable being being the kite flying and black is generally avoided during festive times. Even then there is peculiar tradition in Maharashtra, where Maharashtraians wear black clothes on an auspicious day like Sankranti. Also even as it is auspicious day it is not considered as such in Maharashtra. As a child I was always curious of the black clothes during festival and why it is not allowed otherwise, but no one really had a satisfactory answer.  After being a litter older and having developed little curiosity in history tried to find an answer to this question. Often all traditi

Saraswati pooja and its historical significance.

As we celebrate Dussera, there are various stories related to the festival. This festivals is linked to the Divine Shakti and the worship of the goddess and her victory over Mahishasura. It also marks the day of victory of Rama over Ravana. It is also significant in Mahabharata were the Pandavs finished their 13 years of exile and took out their arms which they had hidden  on the bidi leaf 🌳 (aptyachi pane). Thus Dussera marks the significance of worship of the arms (shastra) in hindu tradition for protecting dharma from adharma. Along with the worship of arms and Shakti the duserra also has a tradition of worshiping of Saraswati the godess of knowledge.  A few days back one of the former minister in maharashtra questioned why we have to worship Saraswati, no one has seen her then what's the need. Duserra give us a good opportunity to clarify why Indian civilization owes all its gratitude to Saraswati.   Saraswati the river: Saraswati River was the most important river for the h

Modi and building of a Welfare State.

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Narendra Modi launched the Urban Swacha Bharat Mission and also reviewed the Jal Jeevan mission. (connecting rural areas with Tap water). This triggered the idea of this article. Watching him on YouTube, which took me to some of his older interviews, he was asked about the importance of Bapu's thoughts in todays world. As a CM he said he would like to build a true welfare state on the ideals of Bapu's Ram Rajya. Words can sometimes mean nothing until they are backed by actions. Hence now 7years on and a global pandemic later, it is a nice time to review Modis work as PM, and has he stood on his words of building a welfare state. For the purpose this article, we will try to focus on the economic aspects.  Welfare State is different form Socialists State: Welfare state IMO is very different from a Socialists /Communist's State. The Socialists state chases a Miraj of equality for all in all fields, a high sounding ideal but an impractical goa

Justice Delayed is Justice denied.

“The Rule of Law and maintenance of order is the science of governance” - Kautilya’s Arthashastra, 4th century B.C. While Justice delayed is justice denied is a legal maxim of the common law, which traces its origin in the west, as we can see from the above quote, that the principles of justice were laid out in the ancient Indian tradition of governance as well! While the scope of the maxim is very wide and can be argued from various standpoints, for the purpose of this essay we will focus on the social and economic impact of justice delayed and its consequences on the society from the stand point of India. Decoding 6yrs of Narendra Modi's political economy.

With the slowdown in the domestic economy and the technical recession that has been caused by COVID 19 induced lockdown in the Q1 of 2020 a lot of ‘economists’ have been writing obituaries for the Indian Economy. The Stock market fell about 30% in April and then everybody was projecting the doomsday scenarios and were like ‘look I told ya’ they don’t understand economics. The same guys have now changed their positions as markets traded at all-time high just 8 month after pandemic. Also in a democracy were mandate of the people is considered the barometer, Modi led BJP has not just retained power in 2019 but has also been making gains in the majority states. So what’s the myth and what is the reality. This piece is not about the narrow data point to argue one way or the other but just too simply lay what the trajectory of reform initiated by the Modi government is. The 1 st tenure: Modi with his 282 was thought of continuing on the ABV path, and initiated with the land reform bill wh
